Experience the Buzz Beekeeping Event: The University of Illinois Extension invites youth and adults to take part in a unique Beekeeping Experience hosted by Dry Creek Beekeeping on June 18, 2025. Participants will suit up for this immersive, hands-on experience and explore the fascinating world of beekeeping through a guided tour led by Chase Dittmar, Jo Daviess 4-H alum, founder, co-owner, and educator. The tour offers a rare opportunity to step into the life of a real beekeeper and observe bees in action. Following the tour, participants will enjoy a honey tasting session, where they’ll explore a wide variety of honey flavors and learn how bees make honey and what gives it its unique aroma, color, and taste. From light to dark, each honey offers a distinct flavor profile.
This event is open to youth entering 5th–12th grade and adults.
Cost is $30 per participant, and space is limited.
Register by June 13 online at https://go.illinois.edu/BeekeepingExperience or call 815-858-2273 for more information.

The power has been restored. The school day will proceed as normal.

Attached are flyers for two of our upcoming free family events from All Our Kids: Early Childhood Networks.

We’re happy to inform you that the FHN Miles and Minutes program will be offered again this year! Competition begins Monday, May 26 and runs through Sunday, August 24. The program allows participants to log various types of physical activity over the summer to support an FHN area school and help them win prize money for that school.
School Systems in FHN Service Area
Aquin • Chadwick-Milledgeville • Dakota • Durand • East Dubuque • Eastland • Forrestville Valley •
Freeport • Galena • Immanuel Lutheran School • Lena-Winslow • Orangeville • Pearl City • Pecatonica
River Ridge • Scales Mound • Stockton • Tri-County Christian • Warren School • West Carroll
A calculator on the Miles and Minutes website, www.fhn.org/milesandminutes, automatically converts minutes of almost any type of physical activity into miles to make it easy to participate. There are two categories of cash prizes to be awarded:
• School system with the most average “miles” logged per participant
• School system with the most “miles” total
This is a great opportunity to earn funds for your school’s athletic program or other needs!
The first prize for each category is $2000, second prize is $1000, and third prize is $500.
Participants can watch the FHN Miles and Minutes Facebook Page for chances to get their school points to compete in a bonus prize drawing at the end of the summer!
Every time a participant enters a contest on the FHN Miles And Minutes Facebook page, their school gets one point in the Sweepstakes competition, and one chance at a prize. Winning a contest gets the participant’s school even more points and more chances at a prize. At the end of the summer, we'll draw three winners at random from all the Sweepstakes entries!
First prize for the Sweepstakes category is $500, second prize is $400, and third prize is $300.
Just to make it fun for everyone, prize winners in the regular categories (school system with the most average "miles" logged per participant and school system with the most "miles" total) won't be eligible for Sweepstakes prizes. But remember, we won't know who the regular category winners are until September!
Prize money for all of the categories will be awarded in October.
Participants must register online at www.fhn.org/milesandminutes, and all instructions are available on the website. Physical activity needs to be logged within a 2-week timeframe of its completion. Other than that, the program will operate on the honor system. Registration begins Monday, May 12th and the program will start May 26th.
Participants from any zip code can support any school system, for example, if family members in Stockton would like their miles to be designated to the Orangeville school system, they can do so. Grandparents and family members in other states may also participate. Participants must be age 12 or older, so your student athletes over age 12 can log miles earned during their summer sports activities once these practices resume!
A running total for each school system, in both prize categories, will be posted on the website to encourage healthy competition beginning around the second week of the program.
FHN Miles and Minutes will be promoted throughout the region through advertising and other FHN marketing methods. We hope you will also encourage your students, their families, and friends to support your school while they get some healthy exercise! You could set up your own competitive teams, get together for group walks, develop your own prize system to honor weekly winners, promote your progress via social media with the provided graphic or your own posts, or think of dozens of other ways to encourage and recognize participation.
We have attached a flyer for use in promoting FHN’s Miles And Minutes, and this is also available at www.fhn.org/milesandminutes for download. If you have questions about the FHN Miles and Minutes program, please feel free to contact Chris in FHN Marketing at 815-801-4196.
Thank you,
Chris Byers
FHN Miles and Minutes Coordinator
